Privacy Policy

Effective Date: December 27, 2025

1. Introduction

Welcome to The Good Parent ("TGP", "we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting the privacy and security of our users, specifically the parents ("Subscribers") who use our services and the children ("Child Users") whose devices are monitored.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our SaaS parental control platform (the "Service").

2. Information We Collect

Information from Subscribers (Parents)

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Identity Data: Name, email address
  • Billing Data: Payment information (processed securely by third-party providers)
  • Account Data: Password (hashed), preferences, and settings

Information from Child Users (The Device)

To provide the core functionality of TGP, we collect data from the monitored devices. This data is collected only after you, as the legal guardian, have installed our software and provided verifiable consent.

All monitoring features require verifiable parental consent before activation. Only device time limits can be enforced without collecting personal information.

With consent, we collect:

  • App Usage: List of installed applications and time spent on each
  • Screen Time: Total active screen time and session durations
  • Web History: URLs visited, search terms, and timestamps
  • Location Data: GPS coordinates for location tracking and geofencing
  • Screenshots: Periodic captures of screen content for safety monitoring
  • Device Information: Device model, OS version, and unique identifiers

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Parental Monitoring & Safety: To provide dashboards, reports, and alerts regarding your child's digital activity
  • Service Improvement: To analyze usage trends and improve our algorithms
  • Customer Support: To resolve technical issues
  • Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws and regulations

4. AI Processing & Human Oversight

Your data is processed through artificial intelligence systems to provide monitoring and analysis features. Please note:

  • AI Processing: Our AI systems analyze data to detect concerning content and activity. AI can make mistakes—no system is perfect
  • Anonymized System Data: In rare cases of legitimate system issues, staff may review anonymized, non-personal data for troubleshooting
  • Personal Data Protection: Your personal data is never reviewed by our staff unless you, the parent, specifically authorize a support team member to access it—and only when necessary to resolve your issue

5. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information:

  • Encryption at Rest: All stored data is encrypted using industry-standard encryption
  • Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted between devices and our servers is encrypted using TLS
  • Processing: Data may be temporarily unencrypted during certain processing operations, but is immediately re-encrypted upon completion
  • Access Controls: Strict access controls limit who can access data
  • Regular Audits: We conduct regular security audits to ensure system integrity

However, no electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We implement strict retention policies to ensure data is not held longer than necessary:

  • Retention Limits: Data retention periods are determined by your subscription plan tier
  • Metrics Data: Raw data (app usage, screen time, web history) retained for up to 30 days, then aggregated or deleted
  • Alert Data: Safety alerts and associated evidence retained for up to 90 days
  • Automatic Deletion: Data older than your plan's retention limit is automatically and permanently deleted
  • Account Deletion: When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed

7. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your data or your child's data. We only share information:

  • Service Providers: With trusted third-party vendors (cloud hosting, payment processing), subject to strict confidentiality obligations
  • Legal Requirements: If required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect rights and safety

8. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

TGP complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

  • Verifiable Parental Consent: We do not collect personal information from a child until we have obtained verifiable parental consent
  • Parental Control: You have full control over the data collected—review, delete, or refuse further collection
  • No Third-Party Tracking: We do not allow third-party advertising networks to collect data from Child Users' devices
  • Features Disabled by Default: All monitoring features must be individually enabled after providing consent

See our COPPA Compliance page for details.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction (including GDPR, CCPA), you have the right to:

  • Access: View data we hold about you and your child via the TGP dashboard
  • Correction: Update account information in your settings
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Review: Access all information collected about your child
  • Refuse Collection: Stop further collection of your child's information
  • Modify Settings: Change monitoring settings at any time

To request deletion, contact us at privacy@tgpcontrols.com or use the "Delete Account" function in your dashboard.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of changes by posting the new Privacy Policy and updating the "Effective Date." Significant changes regarding child data collection will require renewed parental consent.
